This should be a 5 star review because it's a beautiful well kept campground. We stayed 3 nights here and had a great time. The only complaint which is a big one was the noise levels of generators. We were flanked by 4 RV's, 2 on each side of us all who loved their generators. They'd run them first thing in the morning, some all day, others would run them all night. Some turned them off at night, others didn't. I almost felt like I was camping in a auto shop with compressors running all the time. It really took the beauty out of being outdoors and drastically diminished the natural sounds of nature. If it wasn't for that, this campground knocks it out of the park as far as getting away from the hustle and bustle of normal everyday living, plus the hum of generators.
Our first visit was prior to hunting season and the campground was serene! We loved it so much we decided to spend Thanksgiving there, but unfortunately so did many, many hunters. Had I posted this review prior to that stay it would have been a solid 5 star rating. If you are not a hunter, I would strongly advise against this campground during hunting season. Sites are still clean as are the facilities, however, hiking and quiet are both at a minimum.
We loved this campground! It wasn't too big (30 sites?) and nestled into the pine and live oak trees of the national park. Beautiful!Peaceful and relaxing. Water hookups for camping only. Firepits at each site and nice level RV parking. The bathroom/shower house was clean but didn't have electrical outlets for hair dryers. We hiked around the lake, enjoying the views (geckos! and wild, colorful mushrooms which we only took pictures of I promise) and enjoying the day. The next morning we took a long bike ride to the next camping site several miles away. The ride to and from was on a low traffic, easy-ride road. Hickory Landing was a little more primitive without water hookups at each site but did have a landing for boats. I think the 2 were only a few miles apart. Each night we sat by a fire and enjoyed the stars. The lady host was fabulous, she was always tidying the sites or cleaning something and helped us find the perfect campsite. We definitely will return.
Great campground and friendly staff. Some of the campsites can be reserved on recreation.gov
Extra large sites. Clean Comfort Station. Camp host was very helpful and friendly. We will be coming back!
